ASK QFIN- February Edition

Welcome back to ASK QFIN! In this edition we’ll be discussing St Patrick’s Day outfit inspiration, rainy day styles, and DIY lash lifts.

St Patty’s Inspo

St Patty’s day is coming up soon and QFIN is here to inspire! St Patty’s is all about green, and other fun emblems like four-leaf clovers and lucky charms. If you’re lucky enough to have ginger hair, we hope to see you speeding down Aberdeen at the ginger run this year!

The theme is green– but how do you stand out in the crowd? Take a look at these fun stylings of green pieces to find some fresh inspiration.

This St Patty’s day, play around with accessories, whether it’s a cute pair of boots, a trucker hat, or your nails, to make your outfit unique. Temporary tattoos and makeup are a great way to get creative with your styling.

Consider using what’s already in your closet and dressing it up with details to stay sustainable! Local thrift stores can also have great selections of unique green pieces you’ll want to wear again in the future. Tip: check the children’s section for the perfect green baby tee. You can also support your fellow students by purchasing student-sold St Patty’s merchandise. The Queen’s For Sustainable Fashion Club will be selling student-designed pieces for the holiday, as well as the Queen’s Vets Without Borders Club on March 14th. Check out their instagrams for updates on the sales (@qfsfashion, @queens_vetswb).

Here’s a sneak peak of what QVWB will be selling…

Baby Tees will be going for $25 and tote bags for $15

Exchange Diaries- Rainy Days in Mastricht

We’ve all been in the unfortunate scenario where our perfectly curated outfit from the night before is impractical because of the drizzle, patter, shower, pour- whatever kind of rain - outside. Can raincoats be cute? Are ponchos a look? I don’t want to wear a hoodie with everything.

Having lived in Maastricht, Netherlands for an exchange for a month now, I have been accustomed to the rain. Each outfit is accompanied with the assumption that it will rain in some form during the day. From both personal experience and external Dutch inspiration, I have curated some cute rainy day fits. And worst case scenario, an umbrella over everything is always a good plan B.

To the untrained eye, this outfit looks like any other. What element really makes it fit for a rainy day? The scarf. Adding a scarf to an outfit is both a chic accent and a makeshift hood. Tying the scarf to cover your head protects your hair from getting wet. Bonus points for rocking a slick back thus making it easier to cover all your hair.

In true rainy day fashion, having a staple trench coat always comes handy. It is accentuated with incorporating different layers into the outfit that coordinate. In a practical sense, it provides warmth from the rain and protects your clothes from getting wet. Hats also go well with trench coats!

DIY Lashes– Do They Work?

Lash lift and tints are perfect for the low-maintenance girl who wants to wake up with her lashes looking naturally, dark, lifted and beautiful. However, beauty comes with a price, and in this case it's upwards of $80 a session.

Luckily, with every new and expensive beauty treatment comes a search for the cheaper and faster alternative – lash care is no exception. Many lash enthusiastes have been experimenting with DIY lash lift and tint kits that get the job done at home!

Tons of girls have opted for this alternative, documenting their simple and quick at-home-lash experience to show how truly easy it is! Amazon seems to be the place to go, offering a variety of DIY kits ranging from 20 to 50 dollars a piece.

The verdict is in, and it says that DIY lash lift and tints are a win-win - beautiful lashes without the gruesome cost of professional upkeep!
