2021- the year of over-accessorizing. You heard it here first! After being locked up in quarantine for far too long, we fashionistas (myself included) are itching to show the world all our new purchases bought throughout quarantine. My latest quarantine purchases have heavily revolved around hats- each one of my purchases reflecting a unique trend within the past year. Maybe by showing off a few of my quarantine hat purchases, I won’t feel as bad about the fact that isolation has been fueling my compulsive shopping habits. Now is the time to get ahead of 2021’s biggest hat trends before we miss them completely. So, let’s get started.
Berets
If your quarantine wasn’t spent binging every single Netflix series- I simply don’t believe you. Love it or hate it, Emily in Paris was known for being the perfect quarantine binge watch TV series. Emily in Paris has helped fill the hole of preppy fashion that Gossip Girl left behind in 2012. From influencers to fashion editors, Emily in Paris has made an impact on many of our outfit choices. Emily Cooper inspires viewers to take their wardrobes up a notch, encouraging fun colors, patterns, and of course, hats. Specifically, Emily is known for her love for berets, a quintessential French accessory.
The Beret isn’t going anywhere in 2021. This bold statement piece is known for its ability to add a chic twist to any look. Whether you are purchasing the rich leather version from Gucci or a cheaper version on amazon, there has never been a better way to disguise your hat hair while adding some spunk to your outfit. So, what are you waiting for? You don’t need to book a trip to France to buy this statement piece!
Paperboy Cap
The questionable, early 2000s trend is back. But this time, it is here to stay. Celebrities are absolutely LOVING the newsboy cap trend for 2021 and are urging us to invest in one. Any accessory Bella Hadid wears is an accessory I can get on board with.
The paperboy cap is a baseball cap made of wool, with an extra-long top that extends to the brim. The best part about wearing these hats is the wide variety. Each cap targets a new fabric or pattern, making it impossible not to find a way to express your own personal style. Leather, cheetah print, hot pink- they have it all. So, why not express your personal style by investing in a funky newsboy cap?
Wide Brimmed Hats
Wide Brimmed Hats are the winter trend to try and get on board with. When you are putting on one of your normal winter outfits, throw on this hat and I promise you won’t be upset. A wide-brimmed hat has the power to take a regular, winter wardrobe staple and turn it into an outfit you’d see on the streets of NYC. Bohemian, urban, classic, chic- you could rock it all. My absolute favorite part about wearing the wide-brimmed hat in the winter is that hat hair is completely inexistent after wearing it! Huge score if you ask me.

This trend is everywhere. And well, if you’re not into the cute, bucket hat trend, you’re simply just not paying attention. Trendsetting celebrities and endless influencers have taken the bucket hat from the runway and introduced it to the streets. And let me tell you this trend will not only be around for a short season rather; this is a trend that is officially here to stay.
There are endless options with bucket hats which makes the accessory so versatile. There is a bucket hat in EVERY style- from neon colors, animal print, to light cotton material for summer and heavy faux fur in winter. There is a bucket hat for every season or occasion. The possibilities are seriously endless!
Beanies
As the weather begins to get colder, we must learn to bundle up. However, bundling up doesn’t have to be done unfashionably. Beanies are known for being the best accessory to keep you warm during the colder, winter months while not completely undermining your style.
Although adding a beanie to your outfit may give you some extra style points, there are a few styling tricks to follow and keep in mind. First, beanies typically look better with more casual, streetwear like outfits. Secondly, do not be afraid to add a beanie to a more sophisticated and classier look. Lastly, solid color beanies are the easiest to mix and match however, a unique bright or printed beanie can add some outfit interest.

The 90’s baseball trend was probably the one trend you never saw coming. The baseball cap never ever went away. Rather, we have owned and complied a ton through many years. In the past, many of our baseball caps sat on the bottom of our closet floor, however, now is the time to pull them out and rock that sporty, chic look. Baseball caps are no longer solely reserved for bad hair days, morning hikes, or weekend errands anymore. In 2021, they are THE accessory that updates any look.
