Love is in the Air: My Favorite Couple Shoots

With the passing of Valentine’s Day and the season of love, couples all over the world are celebrating their companionship and romance. Even if you’re not in a relationship, celebrating love of all kinds is a beautiful way to appreciate yourself and your loved ones around you. Brands love to highlight the public's attachment to their favourite celebrity couples by producing campaigns and articles about them and their love story. In honour of the commencement of the season of love, here are my favourite celebrity couple photoshoots from over the years.

Devon Lee Carlson and Jesse Rutherford for DAZED SS20

Although there’s much speculation that this it-couple is no longer together, this editorial shoot of Wildflower’s Devon Lee Carlson and The Neighbourhood’s Jesse Rutherford is one of my favourites. Styled in Ami Alexandre Mattiussi SS20, the pair feature leather pieces, blazers and jackets, a black and white colour scheme, and the pinnacle red lip. The DAZED issue features an interview that tests the couple on how well they know each other, having gone to the same high school only a few years apart and dating a couple of years later. Devon has been seen as an inspiration to Jesse’s music, even showcasing her in The Neighbourhood’s music videos such as ‘Lost in Translation,’ released in September of 2020. Even if they aren’t currently together, Devon and Jesse have evolved fashion and music together and will continue to do so apart.

Kevin Abstract and Nick Holiday for Givenchy

BROCKHAMPTON’s Kevin Abstract and Holiday Brand’s Nick Holiday were photographed for Givenchy this past week, and the creative is one of my favourites. Although there’s not much information on this campaign (the photos have only been released on Instagram), we know Givenchy’s Creative Director, Matthew Williams, directed the shoot. The couple is wearing Givenchy SS22. Embedding the pair’s streetwear style, the photos feature black and white and colour, showcasing Givenchy’s Mallow Low shoes in Red. Because of Nick and Kevin’s creative backgrounds and careers, this shoot was executed perfectly and is one of my favourites of all time.

Lindsay Vrckovnik and Tyler Golden for DKNY SS22

New York-based designer Lindsay (more commonly known as @linmick), and her model boyfriend, Tyler, were featured in DKNY’s SS22 campaign called ‘Do Your Thing’. This facet of the campaign, ‘Do Your Thing for Love,’ is meant to empower individuality and self-expression while spotlighting talents who create and explore for themselves and those they love. Having followed Lindsay for quite some time and seeing her designer creativity and strength with knitting and crocheting pieces, I’m so proud she was highlighted in this fashion-based campaign.

Although not an official photoshoot or even fashion-based, my greatest honourable mention in the category of celebrity couple photoshoots would be the iconic photo booth pictures of Michelle and Barack Obama. Initially posted to Twitter by former US president Barack Obama, the world fell into a frenzy over these heart-warming and wholesome photobooth images of the couple at an event for Michelle's birthday. Captioning the tweet with “In every scene, you are a star”, there’s no way these photos won’t pull on your heartstrings and make you love the Obamas even more.
